Background

After serving as the founding dean of the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University, Dr. Raymond S. Greenberg was appointed as the provost and then the president of the Medical University of South Carolina. Most recently, he completed a term as executive vice chancellor for health affairs at the University of Texas System. Greenberg’s research on cancer epidemiology helped to define the role of race and ethnicity in cancer risk and prognosis. He is the author of more than 150 scientific publications and the editor of a widely used textbook, Medical Epidemiology: Population Health and Effective Health Care, now in its fifth edition. His current writing is devoted to landmarks of modern medicine and the innovators behind them.
